'Sweet game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had played this game with the boys "repeatedly", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She said the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "In the summer" his family member had worries about the situation, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to examine in the defendant's belongings."

Mrs Prior KC stated materials including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepson contacted the law enforcement about his suspicions.

She said the defendant continued to engage in the "candy game" with six youngsters that time - July 26th - and they were everyone unwell the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the law enforcement a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
